Adam Godwin was fast as lightning on the baseball field and holds the record for stolen bases at Troy University.

Ironically, it was a lightning strike that almost took his life just weeks after graduating Enterprise High School in 2001, and in a totally separate incident years before, did end the young life of a neighborhood pal.

The two events changed Godwin’s perspective on life forever.

“When you’re young, you don’t realize death too much,” Godwin said. “I just knew that (losing best friend) was hard to swallow and I’ll carry that with me for the rest of my life. And then when I experienced that (being struck) two weeks after graduation, it took it to a deeper level.”

Godwin forged ahead after both incidents, becoming a standout for the Enterprise State and Troy University baseball
