Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is seeking more information on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices at the University of Notre Dame and Butler University. Rokita issued Civil Investigative Demands (CIDs) after the universities did not respond to requests made in May.

Rokita is investigating whether these institutions are engaging in "racially discriminatory practices" that might breach their nonprofit statuses or violate state and federal laws.

"Notre Dame and Butler were given ample time to address the concerns of many by responding to questions about their DEI practices, but they failed to provide anything meaningful," Rokita said.
