COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said Saturday that 150 members of the Ohio National Guard will be dispatched to Washington, D.C., to help support federal law enforcement as President Donald Trump pushes forward with his takeover of policing in the nation’s capital.

The deployment, announced in a statement from DeWine’s office, comes at the request of the U.S. Army. The Guard members will serve as military police, conducting presence patrols and bolstering security in the capital.

“We have been asked by the Secretary of the Army to send 150 military police from the Ohio National Guard to support the District of Columbia National Guard,” DeWine said. “These Ohio National Guard members will carry out presence patrols and serve as added security.
