ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
Family and friends held a vigil for Joseph Andrus after he was shot and killed while driving for Uber on Aug. 7.
The vigil was at Haynes Community Center and Park from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday night.
"He taught me a lot and shaped me. My first word was Joe. I only smiled for him for a while," said his younger sister, Aimee Green.
At the park, candles and pictures were set up to honor his life and celebrate what would have been his 31st birthday.
"He had overcome a lot of things. I mean, how many people do you know who have lost somebody or lost someone or felt alone or singled out or bullied or any of these things, he made sure they didn't feel alone because he knew what it was like, and he worked so hard to overcome so much.
