A HMP Birmingham inmate died just days after Christmas after struggles with drug and alcohol misuse, a coroner has concluded.

Dean Collins was found to be 'very unwell' in his cell at the Winson Green prison on December 21 last year. He was taken to the new hospital in Sandwell where he was treated.

However, the 46-year-old had developed multi organ failure and died on December 27. An inquest in writing, which took place this month, concluded his death was caused by Hepatic Hepatic cirrhosis as a result of Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B.

A month before his death, Collins had appeared on West Midlands Police's most wanted list in connection with a burglary , but he was taken back to prison on December 10.
