Overlooking the fact that Congressional redistricting is legal in all states, Gene Collier falsely states, without evidence, that Texas is attempting to “disenfranchise non-white voters and solidify the President’s power grab” (“Democracy loses to Stupidity,” Aug. 10).

He feels that democracy is being directly threatened by President Trump with a legal change in the red-state Texas legislative map. Yet, he ignores the fact that more radical changes have occurred in blue-states such as California, Illinois, and Massachusetts, where democracy has survived without difficulty.
