The New Bedford Whaling Museum is launching its first Moby-Dick Book Club, a free virtual series exploring Herman Melville’s iconic novel.

The three-part series, moderated by Marina Wells, assistant curator of history and culture at the museum, will feature discussions with seven nationally recognized Melville scholars, according to a community announcement. The club will meet virtually from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of September, October and November.

The book club is designed to prepare readers for the 30th Moby-Dick reading marathon at the museum in January.

Each session will focus on a guiding theme and include a suggested reading schedule, but participants are encouraged to read at their own pace, join when they can and bring their thoughts, questions and interpretatio
