Drivers with popular vehicles face a new driving restriction this month impacting travel for thousands. HGV drivers have been warned of new motoring bans in place across the European Union, with motorists and road users put on alert.
Between July and August, most HGVs over 7.5 tonnes are banned from driving in Europe on weekends on certain roads and motorway networks. These vehicles are also subject to restrictions on public holidays in some countries. Bans typically start from 22:00hrs the night before public holidays begin.
"Every summer we see these restrictions cause avoidable delays and backlogs, especially for businesses and individuals unaware of how extensive they are," stated Jari Rasmussen, associate director at Baxter Freight.
