A body has been recovered from a river by search teams looking for a missing boy.

North Yorkshire Police said the body was found in the River Swale in Richmond at 10.45pm on Saturday.

Earlier that evening, police launched a search after reports that a 12-year-old boy had entered the river at around 5pm.

Yorkshire Live reports that members of the public were present on the sunny afternoon at the popular beauty spot.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and Mountain Rescue joined the operation and scoured the banks of the river looking for any sign of the youth.

These specialist teams are said to have focused their search around Richmond Falls, which is a series of waterfalls along the River Swale.
