• William O. Smith historical marker unveiling is 10 a.m. Aug. 27, adjacent to the Polly Ann Trail on the future site of Levi’s Link Park in Oxford. W.O. Smith’s pioneering spirit and business acumen put Oxford on the map as the “Gravel Capital of the World.” Smith opened Oxford’s first gravel mining operation in 1912. Parking is inside Koenig Materials’ main entrance at 1955 E. Lakeville Road, Oxford. Walk or take shuttle to the Polly Ann Trail marker site, www.facebook.com/CharterTwpofOxford.
