A dizzying array of hits was played on Saturday, Aug. 16 as Goo Goo Dolls brought its Summer Anthem Tour to the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights. The sold-out crowd was on its feet and singing along to fan favorites spanning the Buffalo, N.Y. duo’s nearly 40-year career.

The sun was just setting as lead singer and guitarist John Rzeznik strode onto the stage, guitar in hand, shouting, “Holy (expletive)!”to the crowd and immediately launching into “Naked” from the Goos’ double-platinum 1995 album, “A Boy Named Goo.” The even more energetic bassist Robby Takac then bounded onto stage with the rest of the band, his enthusiasm apparent throughout the full 100-minute, 23-song set, which also included three tracks from the new “Summer Anthem” EP that’s due out A
