Tom Lewis was, quote and unquote, “old school” when it came to his work ethic, nose-to-the-grindstone expectations held for those he supervised and undying loyalty he maintained for anyone considered a friend, a trusted a colleague or, most of all, a young student who could use a boost.
“He always wanted to make sure the kids were taken care of. That’s all he ever wanted; make sure our kids have the best and the coaches are taken care of,” Rahway head football coach Brian Russo said.
Old-school, hands-on concern, for sure. But as far as 21st century communication options went, Lewis was downright prehistoric.
As widely known as he was for his long history as a basketball coach, educator, athletic director, school board member and scholarship tournament organizer, Lewis was even more cel
