LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Lamont Hobbs is a lifelong Louisvillian who grew up in the Southwick neighborhood in west Louisville.
He said the reopening of the Algonquin Park pool was a great reinvestment for everyone on the West End and even had an opportunity to take his grandchildren to the pool the first weekend it opened.
But after two separate instances of youth-involved shootings, he decided against taking them back for the rest of the summer.
“It hurts me,” he said. “I learned how to swim in Algonquin; been going to Algonquin forever.”
“For me to not take my kids somewhere where I grew up at? It’s despicable. We have nowhere else to go.”
He said that an increase in police presence around the park would be all it takes to reconsider his decision.
