THUNDER BAY – A quick response helped prevent a garage fire from spreading to adjacent property, thanks largely in part to a neighbour, who spotted the fire and called it in.
According to a release issued by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, crews were alerted to the fire at a residence on Melvin Avenue, at about midnight on Saturday, Aug. 16.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered heavy smoke. Attack lines were set up and the fire was contained, the damage limited, and the building preserved.
The homeowner was out of town at the time of the fire.
No indication was given as to the cause.
The investigation is ongoing
