Darkness is the absence of light. Light speed is measured as 300,000 kilometers per second in a vacuum or 186,282 miles per second. Light is moving; darkness is stationary. Light has a source, darkness does not.

Light speed amounts to about seven and one-half times around the earth in one second. The light from the sun takes eight and one-third minutes to reach earth and five and one-half hours to reach the planet Pluto.
