DETROIT — Here’s who we think stood out, either positively or negatively, in the Detroit Lions’ 24-17 preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
The first quarter was a bit rocky for Allen, who narrowly overshot receivers Isaac TeSlaa and Tom Kennedy on what should’ve been big gains. The veteran also showed poor awareness by running through the line of scrimmage and still attempting a pass, drawing a penalty. But he then settled in, finishing 14-for-17 for 124 yards and two touchdowns, both scores going to a different rookie receiver (more on them later). His most impressive rep, at least on first watch, came in the second quarter, when he used a pump fake to manipulate a defender and get receiver Isaac TeSlaa open for a 13-yard gain. He continues to separate himself.
