Meet the Mets

Nolan McLean twirled 5 1/3 scoreless innings in his big league debut, buoying the Mets to a 3-1 victory over the Mariners at Citi Field—just their third win in the last 17 games. McLean helped himself at one point with a highlight reel worthy play, fielding a chopper back to the mound behind his back to start an inning-ending 1-4-3 double play to end the third. A Francisco Lindor RBI double plated the only run the Mets would get against Bryan Woo, who logged his 24th consecutive start of six innings or more—one of only a few pitchers to ever accomplish that feat. But the Mets added a couple of insurance runs against the Mariners bullpen and Gregory Soto helped McLean out of a jam in the sixth to hold the lead and contributed a scoreless seventh as well.
