Republicans are spending a lot of political effort to show that New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is bad for the city. I don’t get it.

If Mamdani becomes the mayor and gets some or all of his programs or ideas through, then Republicans can point out that they were right, and his ideas are wrong for New York and America.

Allow the voters to get what they want. Elections have consequences. Besides, Mamdani cannot single-handedly impose most of his campaign rhetoric without the support and votes of the city council. Unless he takes a page from President Donald Trump’s book and defies standard operating procedures. And that would also play into the Republicans’ hand.
