In the trauma intensive care unit at Sunrise Hospital, we treat patients with the most devastating injuries. They’ve been in crashes or fallen off building rooftops. Sometimes they’ve even been shot or stabbed. They arrive with fractured skulls, broken necks, internal bleeding, spinal cord injuries and more, often with their lives hanging by a thread. They are physically wrecked and emotionally distraught.
I’ve worked in the trauma ICU as a physical therapist for over a decade. I remain committed to this work because I take pride in helping patients recover from traumatic injuries, and in guiding them to rediscover the strength, resolve and hope they need to rebuild their lives. Despite our vital work, professionals throughout Sunrise have been facing severe understaffing, overwhelming wo
