After a 16-month renovation project and surviving the Eaton fire , Bob Lucas Memorial Library in Altadena reopened Saturday, Aug. 16, with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by the community.

The renovation included a 1,000 square foot expansion, which adds about 50% more space for a children’s area, a new literacy center with classrooms and tutoring rooms. In addition, the library has a new roof, upgraded electrical and mechanical systems and an outdoor reading garden.

Renovations began in April 2024 thanks to the passage of Measure Z which allowed for a $4.5 million investment into the library.

Following the ribbon cutting, the library hosted a community celebration with food, music, face painting, and crafts. The library will be opened for regular hours starting Monday, Aug. 18.
