THE Dallas Cowboys have been dealt a major blow ahead of the NFL season.

During Saturday's 13-31 preseason defeat to the Baltimore Ravens , wide receiver Jonathan Mingo landed awkwardly as he jumped for a Joe Milton III pass near the end zone .

Mingo was seen limping to the sideline before going into the medical tent and was immediately ruled out.

It had come just one play after a 49-yard reception in the third quarter.

And franchise bosses now fear the 24-year-old has suffered an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed Mingo would undergo further testing over the weekend, including an MRI scan to determine the severity of the injury.
