Project Prom is giving away free formal wear for teens who need help affording their dream outfit for homecoming.

A Homecoming Pop-up Shop is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 23 at the Johnson County Public Library Franklin Branch’s Book Barn. No registration is required and teens do not have to be a Johnson County resident or have a library card to attend.

Teens can get one free dress or suit and browse the available shoes and accessories.

Last year, Project Prom gave away 239 dresses, 66 suits, 28 pairs of shoes and 125 accessory items. The giveaway is hosted in the fall for homecoming dances and again in the spring for prom.

Donations are accepted year-round by Project Prom team members at all JCPL branches. People who would like to donate gently used prom or bridesmaid dresse
