CHARLESTON — After 70 years since winning the South Carolina Little League State Championship, the Cannon Street YMCA All-Stars are getting a meditation garden that will honor the team and share their story.
During a ceremony at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Aug. 16, friends, family, and members of the team gathered to unveil the design of the garden . The space will feature benches, a large sculpture, and plaques and paving stones commemorating the players, coaches, and donors.
The garden was designed by architect John Rivers , who played as a short stop for the All-Stars. He said the green space has been in the works for over a decade and began as an idea from his late friend and longtime advocate for the team, Gus Holt .
