COLUMBIA — Three Statehouse special elections will be held in December after multiple state lawmakers resigned from their positions on the same day last week, including one for medical reasons and another who is facing federal charges of possessing child sex abuse material.

State Sen. Sen. Roger Nutt, R-Moore, announced he would be leaving his seat after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease , his office confirmed Aug. 11.

Subsequently, state Rep. Bobby Cox, R-Greer, said he would be resigning his position in the House of Representatives to run for Sen. Nutt’s seat.

And Rep. RJ May, R-Lexington, resigned earlier that day from where he is being held in the Edgefield County detention center on 10 charges associated with distributing child sex abuse material.
