COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio will send 150 military police from the Ohio National Guard to Washington, D.C., at the request of the Secretary of the Army.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine issued a statement announcing the deployment. The troops are expected to arrive in the nation's capital in the coming days.
"These Ohio National Guard members will carry out presence patrols and serve as added security," DeWine said. "None of these military police members are currently serving as law enforcement officers in the state of Ohio."
The deployment follows a presidential memorandum signed by Donald Trump on Aug. 11, in which the President called for restoring law and order in the District of Columbia. It also authorized the Secretary of Defense to "coordinate with State Governors and authorize the orders of
