UK acting legend Terrance Stamp has died at the age of 87 as the iconic Superman villain’s family paid tribute to his legacy.

Stamp is best known for his role in Superman II, where he went toe-to-toe with Christpher Reeve’s Man of Steel .

Initially playing the role of General Zod in a cameo in the original Superman movie, released in 1978, Stamp was the highlight of the 1980 sequel .

Fans loved Stamp’s performance to the extent that Zack Snyder brought General Zod back for the 2013 Superman reboot, played in that film by Michael Shannon.

Outside of his work in Superman, Stamp starred in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Far From the Madding Crowd and alongside Tom Cruise in Valkyrie.
