GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Thousands of students are back in Gainesville this week as the University of Florida officially kicks off move-in weekend.

With the fall semester set to begin Thursday, August 21, the campus is buzzing with energy..

Suitcases, mini-fridges, and new students fill the dorm halls as students move into their new homes. For many, it’s the first time living away from family and the first real taste of freedom.

“I feel like I belong here. I feel a sense of community, belonging, all that,” said Layla English, a UF student.

Some are still adjusting to the change.

“Honestly, it hasn’t hit me yet that I’m here. I feel like I’m on a vacation or visit, like I’m going to go home next week and be in my bed,” said Emily Forestier, a freshman.
