A Massachusetts woman was seriously injured Saturday after falling 50-100 feet from an overlook on Mount Pierce near Carroll, authorities said.

Meghan Mason, of Braintree, Mass., was hiking a spur trail on the Crawford Path in the White Mountains. She reportedly slipped and fell on rugged terrain near a scenic overlook, according to a New Hampshire Fish and Game Department news release.

Conservation officers were notified of Mason's fall around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, and they located her about half a mile up the path.

Because of the difficult terrain and the hiker's "precarious" location, the release says that Fish and Game called for assistance from Mountain Rescue Service, Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue Team and Twin Mountain Fire Rescue.
