OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - This day in 1970 was a dark day for the Omaha Police Department.

In 1970, Officer Larry Minard was killed when a suitcase filled with dynamite blew up a vacant house in North Omaha

Black Panther Party members David Rice and Edward Pointdexter supposedly lured the officer into the boobytrapped home.

Years of controversy followed the case, with many believing Rice and Pointdexter were innocent. Both men died in prison.

Minard served four years in the Navy before spending seven as a police officer. He left behind a wife and five children.
