A Garland County deputy was awarded a Medal of Valor this week after saving a motorist from a burning vehicle, the agency announced Friday.

Tuesday night around 9:50 p.m., Office Patrol Deputy John Wright was in the area of Danville Road when he saw a truck travelling at a high rate of speed.

Wright began moving in the same direction as the truck before realizing it had wrecked after leaving the roadway, according to a department release.

After seeing smoke exiting the front of the truck, Wright requested response service from the area's fire department and Emergency Management Services (EMS), then ran to the truck and pulled the injured driver out through a window.

Moments later, the truck was fully engulfed in flames.
