ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria's chief of police was addressing the death of a man in custody Sunday evening, after officers arrested him been arrested for public intoxication.

On Saturday, the Alexandria Police Department identified the man as 32-year-old Allan Tucker of Woodbridge, noting that they were conducting an internal investigation into his death.

Speaking on Sunday, Chief Tarrick McGuire said officers first encountered Tucker when they were responding to a report of a disturbance in the 2800 block of North Beauregard on Thursday, shortly after 5 p.m.

A spokesperson for the department said 911 had reported multiple calls from the area relating to a man who was “running up and down apartment hallways, yelling and knocking on doors.”
