CLEVELAND — The Twinsburg Fire Department says crews helped rescue an 8-month-old infant after a fire broke out in the basement of a home on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters and police responded to the Simsbury Court home around 12:20 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about an active fire in the house's finished basement with a child trapped. Police entered the home and attempted to go down to the basement but were turned back due to "heavy smoke conditions," according to a social media post from the fire department.

Firefighters arrived and launched an aggressive attack to extinguish the flames while looking for the infant. The baby was found in another room in the basement, which was protected by a closed door.
