CLEVELAND — A soggy start to the year hasn’t stopped August from drying out, and that could dull the fall color show across Northeast Ohio .

As of August 17, Cleveland has picked up 28.75 inches of rain in 2025, more than 3 inches above normal. But this month has delivered only 0.70 inches, well short of the 1.96-inch average. A year ago, totals were lower overall — just 20.38 inches by mid-August — but the late-summer rains were steadier.

Mansfield is running about 2 inches wetter than average this year at 30.19 inches, yet August has brought just 0.74 inches. In Akron, the picture is sharper: the city is nearly 3 inches below normal on the year, and has seen only a trace — 0.03 inches — so far this month. At this point in 2024, Akron had already soaked up 6.20 inches in August alone.
