PAIA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui police have identified the suspect allegedly responsible for shooting and killing Maui police officer Suzanne O in Paia.
Clembert Kaneholani, 38, is currently being held without bail.
His charges include murder in the first degree, attempted murder in the second degree and two felon in possession of ammunition.
On Friday police said around 8:30 p.m., a caller reported that an unknown individual had trespassed onto their property and fired a weapon at them.
Maui Police Chief John Pelletier told Hawaii News Now, officers responded to the area of the Paia Sugar Mill when they encountered an individual who was firing what police believed to be a rifle.
“Our officer suffered a round in her chest area,” Pelletier said, and despite lifesaving efforts, she died.
