MAUI, Hawaii (Island News) – The Maui Police Department (MPD) has identified the suspect connected to a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place in Paia.

As a result of the incident, Maui Police Officer Suzanne O, was fatally struck in the chest by gunfire near Baldwin Ave on Friday, Aug. 15, when she was responding to the call.

According to police documents, 38-year-old Clembert Kaneholani was arrested and charged for the following:

Murder in the First Degree

Attempted Murder in the Second Degree

Two counts of Felon in Possession of Ammo

Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

Place to Keep Firearm

Owning/Possessing Prohibited

Kaneholani is currently being held without bail.
