CHICAGO — Pirates top prospect Konnor Griffin has been promoted to Double-A Altoona, sources informed the Post-Gazette Sunday evening. The promotion comes with just four full weeks remaining in the MiLB regular season.
A 19-year-old shortstop, Griffin is rated the sport’s No. 1 prospect by both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. Selected ninth overall by the Pirates in last year’s draft, he began this year in Low-A Bradenton.
He was promoted to High-A Greensboro after playing just 50 games with the Marauders, following a dominant stretch that included a .338/.396/.536 slash line, nine home runs and 26 stolen bases. Those eye-popping numbers allowed him to jet up all prospect ranking lists and earned him a nod to the 2025 MLB All-Star Futures game, last month in Atlanta.
