More than 100 members of churches throughout the Mon Valley gathered at St. Clare of Assisi Church in Clairton for an interfaith service in honor of those killed and injured in the explosion at U.S. Steel’s Clairton Coke Works plant last week.

The service, which took place blocks away from the plant, comes after Steven Menefee, 52, and Timothy Quinn, 39, were killed in the explosion — with at least 10 others injured — on Aug. 11.

At least a dozen clergy members from area churches were in attendance at the service, which began with a large candle being placed before a crucifix on the altar.
