GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has announced that an inmate at the Georgetown County Detention Center died on Monday evening of a medical emergency.

Jonathan Matthew Turbeville, 36, was transported to an area hospital’s emergency room by EMS after detention center staff noticed he appeared to be incoherent in his cell shortly before 6 p.m., sheriff’s spokesman Jason Lesley says.

Turbeville was arrested on Friday on charges of manufacturing, distribution and possession of a Schedule I narcotic, which is believed to be fentanyl.

Officials say Turbeville was in custody after being sent for a hospital clearance and was placed in detox protocol established by the detention center’s medical provider.
