The Frederick County Fruit Growers Association, an agricultural cooperative founded in 1945 to help local orchardists and related businesses, is dissolving after nearly eight decades of operation.
The cooperative’s members voted March 31 to approve the dissolution, with 85% of voting members supporting the move, according to a petition filed in Winchester Circuit Court on June 24. The Virginia State Corporation Commission issued a certificate of dissolution April 8.
For generations, the association provided a range of services to its members, including managing housing for seasonal laborers during the apple harvest season. That role will continue for one final season, according to Fruit Growers President Diane Kearns.
