SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants could’ve settled for two runs. Willy Adames was not in the business of settling.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Dominic Smith muscled a broken-bat single to left field. Heliot Ramos, celebrating his bobblehead day, scored easily. Rafael Devers followed behind Ramos and crossed home plate. It would’ve been fair to assume that Adames would stop at third. Then, he spotted his window.

Right fielder Jake Mangum overshot his cutoff man and threw to second base. Adames, recognizing the opportunity, bolted to the plate. Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim double-clutched his throw, and that sliver of time allowed Adames to narrowly score.
