SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - UPDATE : Leavern Johnson was arrested on Aug. 20 in connection to the incident. He was charged with felony hit-and-run and felony obstruction.

A man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while walking on Hearne Avenue.

On August 16, around 8 p.m., the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) responded to a person versus vehicle call on the 300 block of Hearne Avenue, near J.S. Clark Middle School.

When officers got there, they found Shreveporter Blake Tannen, 40, lying in the grass near the road. Tannen was declared dead at the scene with multiple blunt-force injuries.

Witnesses say Tannen was walking north in the southbound lanes of Hearne Avenue, directly in the road despite sidewalks being available.
