A sports car as a raffle prize seems too good to be true.

For one Erie County church, it was.

St. Jude the Apostle Church in Millcreek Township sold raffle tickets at $50 each with the grand prize of a new Corvette or $50,000 cash. When the winners were announced on Christmas Day 2024, however, the grand prize was announced as going to a fake person supposedly from Detroit.

That’s what raised suspicions and eventually an investigation into the raffle.

The Erie County District Attorney filed an affidavit showing Father Ross Miceli admitted the Corvette was never given away but he gave smaller promised prizes to his favored parishioners and friends, WJET reported .
