GRESHAM Ore. (KPTV) - Officers responding to reports of shots fired instead found a flaming portable toilet on Saturday night, according to the Gresham Police Department.
Police were called to the scene in the 3800 block of Southwest Sandlewood Lane just after 10 p.m. Friday, after reports of shots fired.
Subsequent calls to 911 instead indicated that a portable toilet at the scene had “blown up.”
Police say the toilet “flamed up” as officers and firefighters were on the scene.
An investigation found that an M-80 style firework had been lit inside the receptacle, causing the fire and leading people nearby to believe shots had been fired in the area.
An Explosive Disposal Unit was also called to the scene.
