Day of Hope, spanning the Central Coast from Santa Maria to Arroyo Grande to raise money for local cancer patients, will be held Aug. 27 this year, and is starting a new tradition.

Two car shows, one in Santa Maria and one in Arroyo Grande, will be held on Aug. 23 — the Saturday before the team sales fundraising event — to give supporters a longer and more interactive opportunity to give.

“This will be the inaugural car show event,” said Jessa Brooks, vice president of philanthropy at Marian Regional Medical Center.

The car shows will held concurrently between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., one at Missions Hope Cancer Center in Santa Maria, and the other at Heritage Square Park in Arroyo Grande celebrating the Day of Hope’s expansion and ongoing collaboration with the Arroyo Grande Community Hospi
