More than 100 people needed to be rescued from the water in Hampton, New Hampshire, in the last six days, as tropical surf, hidden hazards and flash rip currents are catching people off guard at the popular beach there.

Yellow flags were out at Hampton Beach on Sunday, meaning moderate danger for swimmers -- but what they've seen in the past week was anything but moderate.

About 144 people had to be rescued over a span of just six days -- that's almost as many rescues as lifeguards made over the entire summer last year.

Tropical storm Dexter brought 3- to 5-foot waves, according to the New Hampshire State beach patrol.

At the peak of the stretch, 51 people were rescued in just one day.
