Police pursued an allegedly armed motorist onto the San Diego (405) Freeway in Van Nuys Sunday, prompting a shutdown of the freeway until he was in custody.

The time and location of the initial call Sunday morning was not available for release, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect stopped on the southbound freeway at Burbank Boulevard and the California Highway Patrol shut down the southbound lanes for the LAPD, a CHP spokesman said. The freeway was briefly closed in both directions but the northbound lanes reopened quickly.

The situation was resolved by 1:15 p.m. when the CHP advised that all lanes were reopened.

The LAPD said the motorist had stopped on the freeway, but the spokeswoman did not know whether a gun was recovered.
