MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - This Day in History, an earthquake with a 4.7 magnitude slammed the city of Memphis.
Between 1851 and 1900, Tennessee and its neighboring states experienced several significant earthquakes, highlighting the region’s seismic activity.
The 1865 earthquake caused noticeable shaking and was felt across the Mississippi Valley.
Another notable earthquake was the 1895 Charleston earthquake, centered in Missouri, registered between 5.8 and 6.6 in magnitude and was felt across 23 states, including Tennessee.
