PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - In Easley, passionate supporters of the Greenville Pickens Speedway took to the streets to peacefully march, fighting to preserve the historic site.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon, the roar of engines was replaced by the footsteps of determined marchers along Calhoun Memorial Highway.

Supporters of the Greenville Pickens Speedway gathered to rally in hopes of convincing county officials to declare it a historic site.

"Today is to raise awareness for the Greenville Pickens Speedway, to preserve it as a historic site. So, as many people as possible, I was trying to get to show up to show the county how many people want to keep this racetrack and how much of an impact it means to the racing community around here," organizer Tasha Kummer said.
