FRANKLIN, Ky. (WSMV) - A man has died after crashing into a tree in Simpson County early Sunday morning, according to the Kentucky State Police.

KSP said the Logan County Sheriff’s Office contacted them just before 6 a.m. for assistance with a fatal crash.

Preliminary investigation shows that an LCSO deputy was driving westbound on US 68 when he saw a 2019 Mazda CX-5 driving eastbound at a high speed.

The deputy then began to search for the vehicle and found it had run off Milliken Chapel Road and hit a tree. The driver, Christopher Barker, 48, of Elkton, was pronounced dead at the scene, KSP said.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing.
