Trey Ebel has been watching the Dick’s Perfect Game All-American Classic since he was a kid.
Sunday, Ebel, son of Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel, got a chance to play in the 23rd annual game at Petco Park.
He entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning and promptly singled to center field and then stole second. He walked with the bases loaded in the eighth in a game the West won 9-4.
Trey has grown up in big-league ballparks. Still, the Corona High School standout admitted that Petco Park is “pretty special.”
“We were here on Father’s Day and I got to shag in the outfield during batting practice, and take ground balls,” he said. “Padres fans are really into the game. And it’s loud here, really loud.”
